How the matcher works.
Last updated 2026-05-26
A short, public description of what fundingme.eu indexes, how matches are produced, and where the system can be wrong. We update this page with every material change to the retrieval or ranking pipeline.
Index
We mirror the European Commission's Funding & Tenders Portal continuously. Every open call across Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, the Connecting Europe Facility, LIFE, the Innovation Fund, the European Defence Fund, Eurostars-3, and EU4Health is fetched, normalised into a uniform record, and stored alongside its source URL and last-seen timestamp.
Calls that disappear from the portal are retained for 14 days as “recently closed” before being removed from the active corpus.
Embedding
Each call is embedded into a 3,072-dimension vector using a text encoder run against a deterministic concatenation of: the call title, the topic description, the expected outcomes, and the eligibility section. Embeddings are recomputed when the source text changes; otherwise we reuse the cached vector.
Match
Your company description is embedded into the same vector space. We retrieve the top-40 semantically similar calls across all programmes, then a reasoning pass scores each one for fit, penalises mismatches (wrong applicant type, geographic exclusion, deadline already passed), and writes a plain-English justification for each of the ten we return.
The top result is unblurred for free. The remaining nine are previewable but require an unlock to read in full.
Freshness
The masthead at the top of the homepage shows when the index was last refreshed. Our target SLO is a refresh within 60 minutes of any call status change on the upstream portal. We measure this against a sample of canary calls and publish drift in the changelog when it exceeds the SLO.
What we don't do
We don't index national-only programmes (yet), state-aid IPCEI rounds (yet), or opportunities outside the EU Funding & Tenders Portal. We don't write applications. We don't introduce you to programme officers. We don't make funding decisions; the Commission does.
Errors and corrections
When we are wrong about a call's status, eligibility, or fit, we file the issue in our public corrections log. If you find one, write to hello@fundingme.eu with the call ID and the observed problem.
